Production Process Copiapó Valley – Minera Hierro Atacama

Minera Hierro Atacama, located in the Region of Atacama at Tierra Amarilla, is responsible for the production of pellet feed from the tailings of copper produced by Compañía Contractual Minera Candelaria (CCMC). This consists of a processing plant, designed for the production of 3 million tons annually of magnetic concentrates, and includes magnetic concentration processes, crushing and classification and inverse flotation. The concentrates produced at the concentrator plant are transported by a 120 km. pipeline to Punta Totoralillo port, located 25 km. to the north of the city of Caldera. The iron concentrates are then filtered and piled in a yard with a capacity of 300,000 tons.


Punta Totoralillo is a mechanized port with a loading capacity for ships of up to 200,000 DWT, complying with all the regulations of a process certified under ISO and OSHAS. The following is a summary of the process in a diagram:
